AABANY proudly presents its 2016 Fall Conference, “Speak Up, Rise Up, Lift Up,” hosted by Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP. In addition to a full day of CLE and non-CLE programs on cutting edge topics presented by AABANY’s committees and partners, we also invite attendees to participate in Legal Services Pitch Sessions, and AABANY’s Diversity Career Fair & Expo.

The Legal Services Pitch Sessions will provide participants an opportunity to engage in live pitch sessions to in-house counsel who have indicated a current need for outside legal services. Law firms seeking to participate in the Pitch Sessions will be pre-screened by in-house counsel based on their hiring needs and selected firms will be invited to join one or more pitch sessions at the 2016 Fall Conference.  The Pitch Sessions will also be opened to legal service providers who are Elite or Gold Sponsors of this year’s Fall Conference and they will have an opportunity to pitch their services to participating in-house counsel and/or law firm attorneys.

The second annual Diversity Career Fair & Expo will bring in selected public sector and corporate employers to the 2016 Fall Conference to provide attendees an opportunity to meet and greet representatives from employers and to learn about different job opportunities. This year’s Diversity Career Fair & Expo will also include selected law firm participants. These employers may also conduct first round interviews at the 2016 Fall Conference. Attendees are also encouraged to attend Breakfast with AABANY’s Career Placement Committee and have an opportunity to learn more about other job openings as well as receive career advice — whether it’s about finding their first job out of law school, changing law firms, or moving in-house.

AABANY is also offering small Group Mentoring Sessions with senior attorneys who have successfully navigated their own careers to the top of the legal profession. Mentors will meet with participants in small intimate discussion groups to: troubleshoot specific professional and personal development issues that impede career advancement; break down abstract concepts like networking and branding; and create a concrete, actionable game plans to move forward and rise up in the legal profession. Pre-registration is required.

Moreover, during the 2016 Fall Conference, AABANY’s In-House Counsel Committee will host its fifth annual In-House Counsel Forum. This invite-only forum is intended to offer senior level in-house counsel and general counsel an opportunity to discuss pressing issues of particular relevance for in-house counsel and to connect with other in-house attorneys.

AABANY’s Judiciary Committee will also host a multi-part Bootcamp: Road to the Bench workshop series focused on providing valuable information for anyone seeking to one day become a judge. The series aims to lift up future judicial candidates by providing them with a roadmap and the tools necessary to ensure success at seeking a position on the bench.

At the conclusion of the day, all participants are invited to stay for the Cocktail Reception to connect or reconnect with peers, friends and colleagues from AABANY. During the Cocktail Reception, AABANY will honor the 2016 recipient of the Norman Lau Kee Trailblazer Award. After the Cocktail Reception, AABANY and its sponsors will be hosting a Joint Committee Dinner for which attendees can sign up in advance and which provides an opportunity for participants to continue to network during dinner.
